Group photographs take organizing. For the delayed gratification of the photograph, we allow ourselves to be herded into formation. We know that if we stay still and look torward the camera we will be seen.
But this is a fairly abstract idea. Children know about standing out in crowds. They're used to doing it in real life, so why trust the camera? If I wave and say where I am (softly) she'll be sure to see me!
