Participants were asked to “pose as a family” for these photographs in the IKEA room settings. Family photographs are dense with memories, conjuring up not only the occasions on which the family has met, but also the myriad individual encounters within these family occasions. The participants in ASSEMBLE are not a “family”, but the memories they will hold of the event (and previous Annual Group Photographs) are genuine.
